psp 3000 officially announced!!!!

Didn’t take Sony too long now did it, the PSP-3000 has been officially announced at Games Convention 2008 in Leipzig. Sony president David Reeves announced that PSP-3000 will go on sale this October, starting on the 15th, it will have a price of 199€ and will be a bundle pack including a 4gb memory card plus a game. The standalone PSP-3000 will be priced at $169 and will be out later this year.

The new model is *just* a hardware refresh, it has a built-in microphone, an enhanced LCD screen with significantly less glare and more vibrant colors. Its also sports a smoother design and look over the PSP Slim. Unfortunatly thats it, no hard-drive, no 65nm CPU or increased battery life it seems or any of our wishes. I guess that will happen in the PSP2 ?

Reeves started with the continued development of the PlayStation® product family into the ultimate entertainment suite with the launch of PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable) 3000 model PSP-3000 will be available as a bundle, including one software title for a RRP of 199€. Confirming total PSP sales of 13.4 million units in the PAL territories., PSP 3000 will sit alongside the highly successful PSP Slim and Lite and, in response to consumer feedback, will feature an enhanced screen along with an in-built microphone. Coupled with Go!Messenger and Skype™, PSP 3000 sets out to establish PSP as a great communications device and an essential tool for those on the go.

Confirming latest sales figures for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) of over 5.8 million units in the PAL territories. Reeves also confirmed the arrival of 80GB PS3 this week and, reflecting the growing entertainment market for SCEE, a limited edition 160GB PS3 scheduled for 31st October for a RRP of €449 in a bundle including additional PLAYSTATION®Network content. Reeves pitched the 160GB model at “those of you out there with an insatiable thirst for downloadable content and an unquenchable need for storage space”.

Building on the theme of content Reeves revealed that the latest research showed that music was, after gaming, the second most popular feature on PS3 and went on to announce a new music video streaming service courtesy of VidZone. The service would appear on the XrossMediaBar and allow users to stream their favourite videos on PS3 free of charge or download them to a mobile phone for a small fee.

Reeves also announced a partnership with Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) to publish and distribute three new massive multiplayer online games for PS3.

With Germany one of SingStar®’s biggest markets, Reeves took the opportunity to update the many fans of the franchise. New firmware will enable users to play tracks from their SingStar PlayStation®2 releases on PS3, and additions to the franchise will launch later this year including SingStar Singalong With Disney on PlayStation 2, Reeves also confirmed that SingStar Volume III would include some major artists featuring on SingStar for the first time including Michael Jackson. In addition, Reeves announced the launch of downloadable song packs from SingStore, beginning with two packs from the ever popular Queen.

Next on the agenda was the introduction of EyePet. Developed by the studio that created SingStar and EyeToy, Eye Pet uses PLAYSTATION®Eye to create a loveable, simian-like pet that lives in your sitting room as captured second by second on your TV. Working in ‘Augmented Reality’, EyePet is fully aware of people in the room and it will interact with you and its environment – ideal for families looking for a new entertainment experience.

Reeves concluded by welcoming David Cage of Quantic Dream on stage to talk about one of the platform’s most highly anticipated titles, Heavy Rain. An industry first, the presentation hammered home the evolution of PlayStation. An interactive thriller, Heavy Rain uses the power of PS3 to let you really control, rather than just watch the story said Reeves. It will evoke themes never used in games before, and is one of the pillar titles for SCEE next year.

Reeves’ conclusion set the scene for an exciting year ahead. “The only first we now care about is that PlayStation is the first choice for gaming and entertainment fans and we are fully prepared to continue the challenge of convincing them.”

Release Notes: Here you have it, an all-in-one solution for your Pandora Needs.

This program is designed to prepare your PSP Memory Stick to be used with the Pandora Battery. Unfortunately this program can not change your Battery to Pandora, however it will copy programs to the Memory Stick in order for you to do this yourself.

This is just a quick bugfix version which fixes a small bug when creating the config.txt
file for the Time Machine IPL. The program now uses MD5 Hashes to check the Eboot files to make sure they are correct. Lastly, Hellcats Pandora Installer was updated to
Revision 4a.

Cross Extender V1.1

Nefarious has released an update to his custom firmware plug-in Cross Extended. This is a bug release version that fixes an incompatibility with certain homebrew applications and will now show memory cards greater than 4GB.

Hellcats Recovery Flasher

Homebrew developer Hellcat has released an homebrew utility that can easily restore semi-bricked PSP units without the use of Pandora. Called Recovery Flasher it can be run from within the recovery menu on any PSP running CFW. Its also possible to install custom firmware 3.71 M33 using Recovery Flasher.

What is this? And why?

* Flashes a fresh 3.71-M33 – for recovering semi-bricks or to
up-/downgrade CFW
* does not use Pandora, runns from the recovery menu or the XMB
* does not use (as in launch) the original Sony Updater (only extracts
all required files from the original .PBP)
* runs fine on CFWs lower than 3.52-M33-3 – handy for upgrading older
FWs w/o the “need to go 3.52, then 3.52-3, then higher” odyssey
* runs fine from TimeMachine (3.40-OE on Fat and 3.60-M33 on Slim)
* can backup the FW flash and restore selected parts (XMB theme,
settings, PSN activation)

The wait is finally over! Dark_Alex has released DCv6, so we can all relax (a little) regarding the new TA-088 mobos wreaking havoc in the CFW scene… Also, the new version allows you to boot from the memstick as well as a new interface! Changelog after read more.

- Now installs 4.01 M33-2
- Change of core. Now it uses 4.01 M33 core. This fixes some TA-88 crashing because of 1.5/3.40 kernel. Note that there are still other kind of newest TA-88 which cannot boot DC at all.

Andy_maN and OldPrisoneR have released an update to FuSa, now upto build 47 of FuSA which features new SpeeDBooster support for PSX titles plus and the ability to alter the screen position.

Materials needed:

Craft knife / Wal-Mart $1.95
1.4mm Precision Screwdriver / Wal-Mart $3.95 set 6 screwdrivers
Superglue / Wal-Mart $.99

2 RubberBands
Patience – the ability to endure waiting, delay, or provocation without becoming annoyed or upset, or to persevere calmly when faced with difficulties.

Step 1 ~ locate all your tools.

First I want you to study the pic of an open battery. Notice how the green circuit board is sitting on the left side of the battery. The black you see is a peace of plastic that sits in-between the battery and circuit board when we make our hole we will be aiming to have the blade rest above the plastic in the space not filled with the circuit board reducing the chance of failure.

Step 2 ~ making our first cut/hole

With the battery topside up and the pins facing you we are going to make our hole on the right hand side. When punching in it is important that you use a 45 – 90 degree angle. All you are trying to due at this point is to break the seal the glue has made.
NOTE -DUE NOT PUSH THE WHOLE BLADE IN JUST THE TIP.
The top of the battery case rests on the bottom half of the case, creating a lip just inside the seam. The 45 – 90 degree angle should help you slip the knife between the inside of the top cover and the outside of the lip. once your in gently pry by pulling in towards the battery on the bottom of the knife handle, your just looking to make enough room so your flathead screwdriver will fit in. be careful not to brake the knife. if your smart you will use the knife to hold open the edge as you slip the screwdriver in. always being carefully not to puncher the battery in anyway.

Step 3 ~ Breaking the seal

Using the 1.4mm screwdriver in the hole we created run around the edges starting towards the back of the battery. I left the front for last.

Step 4 ~ open case

Step 5 ~ lifting Circuit board

Gently lift the Board away from you.

Please read Steps 6.a and 6.b are 2 different methods i suggest you try 6.a first and 6.b second if 6.a fails for you

So I searched around a bit more and found the one wire method of pandorizing the slim battery. Maybe this technique is old news, but I had trouble finding detailed information despite repeated googlings. Anyway, I was able to make this work with very little trouble. I used the battery that came with the slim psp. Basically, with this method you don’t cut any of the pins or connections in the slim battery. You just connect two of the pins together using a piece of wire.

I found a forum post (below) where a guy soldered a wire along with a switch across the two battery leads. The switch allows you to change between regular batter operation and pandora battery operation. Very trick.

However, I decided to just wedge a very small piece of wire into place. I temporarily held the connections together using clear tape. It took about 5 tries to get it right, but it eventually worked as a Pandora.

The tape method is certainly not elegant – you can’t toss the battery around without the wire coming off for example. But there seems to be little chance of destroying your battery and once you’ve installed the CFW you can take the wire out and you have your normal battery back.

To make the magic memory stick I used totalnewbieasyinstallerpandorasmenu and it worked on the first try. Anyway maybe this will save some frustration for one or two people. Here are the links I used and some pics I took of my “sweet” setup.

I used a very short piece of wire. I sort of wedged the wire between two chips on the PCB. It’s hard to see in the photo but I stripped maybe 3-4 mm at each end of the wire to make the connection. And yes, you can clearly see the sweet, sweet clear tape that temporarily holds things in place.

Step 6.b ~ cutting the trace – use only if step 6.a fails for you

Locate this trace it is the chip nearest the pins at this point the top left pin is the one to remove if you want a hard mod battery. Or just cut the trace as shown that leads to pin for soft mod.

Step 7 ~ Testing bat

Close the battery I used rubber bands to hold the battery tighter while running the Pandora battery in slim. Make sure you unplug all cables. Insert moded battery, when you power on the green power lite should be on, and you should have a blank black screen. take the battery out and connect the power cord and power up your psp. It should load as normal, insert the battery agian this time the orange charge lite should come on.

Step 8 ~ use magic memory stick

Step 9 ~ refill trace

Once you are finished with Ur Pandora battery fill in the cut you made with a #2 pencil. lead is a good conductor of electricity J.

Step ~ 10 Sealing the battery

Put Everything Back together press the case tight and use super glue around the edges; WARNING due not use glue near your pins I used my finger to fill in the cracks to get a good bond. You may have to scrape a little off if you use too much to get the battery back in your slim.

Dark_Alex Working on TA-088 Solution

The new TA-088 Motherboard/CPU issue has been examined, and DA is working on it! The problem seems to base from not just the new motherboards, but the new CPU’s being installed. Some TA-088s can be flashed, so it’s kind of a gamble at this point. Dark_Alex has stated that the problem has to do with the core of Despretar Cementario runs off of 1.50/3.40, something that evidently the new CPU’s can’t handle. A new version of Despretar Cementario will not be realeased until they have remade the Core.

Alek says:

As you might have already seen, there are some mobos (TA-088 ones, slim models) in where the IPL used for Despertar del Cementerio, Pandora and Time Machine therefore, doesn’t work.

IPL can be still run from the Memory Stick, but just those that are signed by Sony, and not the ones that contain a different signature; a problem that will probably block the actual way of running your cfw’s, as you couldn’t even load on this NANDs the custom IPLs with different signature.

Even though, IPL is not the problem, but probably the mixed kernel of 1.50&&3.40, and it will be the best option to use a new kernel on Despertar del Cementerio future versions.

So, to sum up, new Dc version will not be released till the new Core and interface is finished. Please be patient

So there you have it folks, the new DC will be created, but not until they do some serious changes to it.

MotionDriver 1.0 + SDK Released

If you’re sporting one of these bad boys — the NEO PSP Motion Kit Adapter to the left, then you best be downloading Raphaels’ MotionDriver v1.0 (for users) and the SDK (for developers).

…Say what?

For developers: easily interface with the NEO Motion Kit without any SIO coding on your part. The input data is provided as a raw gravital acceleration vector, as well as a rotation vector representing the tilt of the PSP. You can poll the motion data as an additional input method; if no motion kit is attached, the driver will return zero values for all vectors. Furthermore, Raphael’s driver bypasses the no sound problem due to the motion kit occupying the headphone jack. Thus, it’s possible to switch between the motion kit and headphones at any given time without a problem.

…Huh?!

For users: install as a regular plug-in under whatever custom firmware you’re running… This enables support for the adapter, which interprets motion gestures as configurable button presses. For example — you may navigate through the XMB by simply tilting your PSP. Quite cool, if I don’t say…

Atari 2600 emulator for PSP v1.1.4

Keeping with his updates Zx-81 has updated PSP2600, the Atari 2600 Emulator for PSP. This version is a port of the PSP of the version v2.2 of Stella. It’s based on the work of Aenea who was the first to port Stella to PSP.

What’s new in this version ?

- A thumbnail image is now displayed in the file requester
while selecting any file with the same name of a previously
saved game.
- In the emulator menu you can go directly to keyboard and settings
menu using the L-Trigger key.
- Fix IR keyboard issue with fw >= 3.80 for FAT PSP
